    End of year awards
The chorus ended our year like we usually do, with a Christmas breakup function at the Royal Wellington Golf Club in Upper Hutt.  It's a great time to get together, to say hi to our significant others, and to recognise our members.

This year we recognised 4 of our members who had passed 10 years of singing with the chorus - Ron Soper, Richard Oldham, John Barton and Alastair Macfarlane.

We also awarded our Barbershopper of the Year award to our Musical Director, Antony Currington.

Interested in knowing more about the chorus? Come along and join us for an evening to see what we're about.

    New doorsign lights up rehearsals
We're most grateful for the generosity of Wellington Signs, who tailor-made the new doorsign, which is on show when we rehearse in the Masonic Hall, Udy Street, Petone. If you're looking for quality signage, or know someone who may be, please contact Managing Director David Caldwell 027 3023721.

    First night back after isolation
Monday 5th June was our first night back at our old venue, singing some great chords, and socialising with guys who we haven't seen since March. Was a wonderful evening of singing!

    Movember success!
Wow! The support we received for our Movember New Zealand campaign was truly overwhelming. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to the cause and helped us raise over $4100 for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health in men. It's not too late if you still want to donate a little now: https://moteam.co/mo-hcc?mc=1

On Saturday December 15th we performed at the Hutt City Council's Christmas in Dowse Square event. It was a great day out in the sun for the families that attended. We sang a number of Christmas songs as part of the celebrations.

    In Memorium - Steve Currington

On November 4th, Steve Currington passed away after a very brief illness. Steve was a central member of the tenor and then bass section of the chorus for many years, doing a number of administration roles including Chorus Manager and Publicity. He was also the tenor of The Razor's Edge, a great quartet made up of HCC chapter members. Steve was also the father of our director Antony.

We'll miss you Steve, but know you'll be having a great time singing in the heavenly choir.

    Sydney Pan Pacific Convention

In September the chorus travelled to Sydney, Australia to compete in the Pan Pacific convention.  The Pan Pacific is a special convention that runs every 3 years, and includes singers from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, the United States, and this time also included a quartet from Singapore. The convention featured the amazing Crossroads quartet.

After preparing 2 songs for some of the year, we were lucky enough to end up coming 2nd in the Barbershop Harmony New Zealand contest held in conjunction with the complete Pan Pacific contest (a sub category). The chorus was very happy with this result. We've been working a lot on improving our singing skills, and it showed in the scores we ended up with.

We'd like to say a big thanks to the guys from the Manawatunes who came with us to Sydney and sang in the chorus. The Manawatunes weren't planning on going, so we invited the ones that wanted to go to join us, and took a number of them along on the ride with us. It was great to bond with our brothers from Palmerston North.

We're now looking forward to next years contest in Tauranga!

    New Members Course

We had a great time with our new members course. 4 weeks of teaching some of the basics, and getting guys involved in singing resulted in 4 new members. It's a great time to be in the chorus.

If you're interested, feel free to join us for an evening to see what happens and to give barbershop singing a go.
